Today on #PurpleHeartDay we highlight retired Command Sgt. Maj. Gretchen Evans. She received the Purple Heart Aug. 5 from Maj. Gen. Hope Rampy, #USArmyHRC commanding general. With 27 years of service and leadership roles in multiple combat engagements, Evans exemplifies bravery and resilience. During her final assignment, she was severely wounded in Afghanistan in 2006. Evans has since become a powerful advocate for veterans. In 2019, she formed a mixed ability team of veterans and civilians with disabilities to compete in the World’s Toughest Race. Her dedication to service was recognized in 2022, when she received the Pat Tillman Award for Service. To all Purple Heart recipients, living and fallen, we salute you. #NeverForget #TakingCareOfPeople #ArmyAwards#Veterans US Army Army National Guard The Adjutant General Directorate
